BOTULINUM TOXIN

What is botulinum toxin?

Botox, or botulinum toxin, is a cosmetic treatment used to improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Botulinum toxin, which comes in forms of Xeomin, Dysport, and Botox can treat the lines on the forehead (called frown lines) and around the eyes (called crows feet).

These wrinkles are caused by consistent use of muscles in your face. Botulinum toxin is used to relax these muscles and reduce the development of wrinkles. While its affects our temporary, continued use has been shown to reduce these wrinkles, visibly, over time.

What is the difference between Xeomin and Botox?

Xeomin is often called "naked" Botox. Botox has accessory proteins added to the botulinum toxin, whereas Xeomin is designed to deliver the toxin without these protein additives. It is believed that this purified structure may help diminish resistance that can develop with persistent use of Botox.

Dr. Gupta will talk to you about the areas that concern you and how best to treat these area. Dr. Gupta will mark out the areas of injection and each site usually requires multiple injections. You may notice of wheel of medication in the area of the injection but that usually dissipates quickly. The injections do not cause significant visual changes and you may choose to return right back to work or your daily errands after the treatment.

The length of the effects of the treatment can range depending on the person, but usually last between 3-5 months. It has been shown that with continued use the lengths of the effects can become more and more prolonged over time. For maximum benefits, treatments are initially recommended every 3 months.
